The three of us were sitting around the kitchen table poring over the old wedding albums that had seen better days, having been thumbed through lovingly by family members over and over again.
“Who is that, Mommy?” I asked my mother.
“That’s Pirike, and next to her is Goldele and her sister Chaya Dreizel,” she said, proud of herself.
“Great! And who is this?” asked Marika.
“You tell me,” said Mommy encouragingly.
“Why, it’s your favorite cousin, Chaim Friedman! And look, here are Cousin Sima and Cousin Rita,” Marika replied.
“You’re right!” exclaimed Mommy with a big smile.
