It was the long-awaited day.

When my close friend Pessy’s daughter returned home from seminary, I expected her to get engaged almost immediately. But as the years passed and her daughter was still single, Pessy started getting nervous. She often confided in me, sharing the ups and downs of her daughter’s shidduchim. I did my best to reassure her that it would eventually happen, but mostly I just listened.

After six years in shidduchim I received the glorious phone call. Pessy’s daughter was getting engaged! I was overjoyed. 

Pessy has only one daughter, so she went all out. The l’chaim was magnificent. Throughout the engagement I was at Pessy’s side, advising her where to shop, what to buy and whom to book. For several months, I lived and breathed the preparations.
